Did you know?: The European rhinoceros belongs to the Dynastidae family which contains some of largest beetles in the world.

In Austria two species are present, this one and the Pentodon idiota -  yes, you did read that right. Both species are split up into more subspecies.

Sometimes it is stated, without reference, that a healthy male often lives 2 to 4 years as an adult. The fact is that males like females as adults aren't capable of feeding, and only live 5 to 6 weeks. The Females often dies after laying their eggs.

The Adults are capable of make a sound with their stridulation organ (Body parts which when rubbed together produces a sound).

The larval stadium takes 2 to 3 years.

The female, as you can see in this image, doesn't have a horn - well, not really true, they have a very small horn.

One last thing, on the left side of the image you can just barely see a white larvae.
