This species has been moved from one part of the Taxonomic Tree to another. Earlier listed under a Subfamily called Homalisinae in the Lycidae Family. It was then moved to into its own Family branch called Omalisidae and thereby loosing its "H".
This is a male species, which is able to fly. The females of the Omalisidae on the other hand are known for not being able to fly, because the Elytras and wings underneath are very underdeveloped - they look almost like Rove Beetles or Firefly females.
The O. fontisbellaquaei is the only member of the Omalisidae Family found in Central Europe.
